R.I.P. Goldie

When Maddi was about 9 years old she wanted a fish so I told her to save her money so she could buy one. She saved enough to buy the fish tank and 2 fish. As a 9 year old little girl she loved her fish. Of course it wasn't long, a couple months, until one of the fish died. It broke her little heart. A few weeks later she found her other fish "Goldie" floating on it's side barley breathing. We took it out of it's tank and placed it in a bowl to see if that would help. It did not. Crying, she came to her dad and asked him to give her fish a blessing so it would live. It took a little convincing but he went with her into her room and gave the fish a blessing. We all laughed really hard as he placed his hands on the sides of the bowl, but the blessing wasn't for the fish it was for a sweet little 9 year old girl with a broken heart. We went to bed and the next morning Goldie was swimming all over the place. Over the years we have joked about having the fish that will never die. We have given him away just to have him returned, the boys have put soap in his water, we have forgotten to feed him, but he just keeps on swimming! When he wants food he will wag his fins and do little flips in the water, we call him our dog fish. When Maddi first got him she named him Goldie, then she got tired of him about 3 years ago so she gave him to Mitch and he named him Patrick, we also call him Dog. A couple of days ago I noticed that he wasn't swimming around as much. Yesterday he didn't eat anything at all, I knew we were finally going to loose our fish that we never thought we would. We've joked that we would have to will him so someone cause he was going to out live us all. This morning when I went to feed him he was dead :( It will be very strange not to have him after 7 years of feeding him every morning. R.I.P. Goldie.

Wow, Goldie lived a long time! We never have had good luck with fish around here. What a cute little story.
