A Night In The ER....

Andy has really been having a hard time getting better after having his tonsils out.  We were told that on day 7 -10 the scabs would come off.  At that time he may have a little bleeding.  Friday night around 11 he came into my room with a bloody washrag telling me he had been bleeding.  This went on for 10 or 15 min and then stopped.  This is what we were told would probably happen.  So we all went back to bed.  About 1 in the morning my phone rings and Andy is trying to tell me he needs help.  Vaughn went rushing in to find Andy vomiting a good amount of blood.  By about 1:30 the bleeding had stopped.  Vaughn gave Andy a blessing and then he wanted to go to bed.  Vaughn decided to sleep in Andy's room with him in case he needed us again.  Needless to say neither one of us slept much the rest of the night.  The next day Andy asked why we were so worried about some blood?  Everything seemed to be fine until Monday afternoon when he started to bleed again.  It only lasted for 5-10 min and then he was fine.  I tried to call his Doctor but didn't get an answer.  Andy seemed fine so we went about our day, had 3 soccer games to attend.  Later that afternoon while watching Mitch's game I got a call from Madi letting me know Andy was bleeding again.  By the time we got home 30 min later it had stopped and he was fine.  His friend had stopped by with an ICEE and he was drinking it with no problem.  Last night (Tuesday) around 10pm Andy was sitting in my room with me when he got up and went to my bathroom sink.  He came back and said it's started again.  I've done a lot of online research to see what we should be doing.  I had him rinse his mouth real good and then gargle with cold water a couple times.  It worked, the bleeding stopped.  About 1:30am we get a call from Andy, he needs us.  He has been bleeding for over 30 min but he thinks it's stopping.  It didn't.  At 2 I finally said we are going to the ER.  No one at the ER seemed to be to concerned.  The nurses and Doctor all said they see it all the time.  They called in an ENT who said it only happens to 1 in 5 people. He was able to clean Andy's mouth and throat out and see where the bleeding was coming from.  He said it was a vein and not the artery.  Which was good.  The Doctor was able to cauterize the vein and the bleeding STOPPED!  Andy was so dehydrated that the nurse could not find a vein to start the IV Andy needed.  So when the bleeding finally stopped they were able to get Andy on IV and get him re-hydrated.  It was so good to see him with some color in his face.  He seriously looked like a Vampire, pale with blood all over his teeth and running down is face.  We got home about 4:30am.  Poor Vaughn had to get up at 7 to go to work.  I don't know how he functioned all day.  Andy is doing so much better today.  He has been eating and drinking all day.  We are so relieved that he will finally start to get better!

We had to dump this bucket 3 times last night.  Poor boy!
